Granny M said this: “I myself prefer McIntosh apples for apple pie.”
However, I like a tart hard apple for apple pie. Something like a Pink Lady or a Ginger Gold.
Peel and slice the apples into the bottom crust alternate with 1/2 cup sugar mixed with the flour and salt. Sprinkle with cinnamon and nutmeg on each layer.
Dot the top of the apples with the small cubes of butter before adding the top crust.
Don’t forget to cut air-holes into the top crust.
Bake at 400 degrees F. for 20 minutes.
Lower the heat to 350 degree F. and bake until apples are soft. You can test the apples with a fork through the air holes.
